Aria Hotel and Casino

Stemming from the Greek word for air, the name Aria pertains to a solo method of singing and a focal point in opera music. As part of the CityCenter development, it is connected to the Shops at Crystals, Vdara Hotel and Spa, Bellagio, and Park MGM by way of trams that allude easy access to the nearby venues. Envisioned by the conglomerate MGM Mirage (now MGM Resorts), the Aria Hotel and Casino is a relatively newer hotel.

Formerly the location of Boardwalk Hotel and Casino which was demolished in 2006, the ground was broken the following year to begin construction. During the beginning of the erection of the buildings in 2007, Infinity World took a 50% stake in Aria from MGM. Construction was nearly halted in 2009 due to the recession but the investors found a way to squeeze by. Just last year, the Blackstone investment firm purchased outright for $3.9 billion dollars and leased it back to MGM Resorts at a rate of $200 million per year.

The Aria was awarded the Gold Certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is green building certified for the recycling and disposal of the demolition of the previous building and for the construction of the new hotel and casino. Aria is home to many sculptures and art including the award-winning “Silver River” and was the backdrop for blockbuster movies such as Now You See Me and Jason Bourne.
